I believe Jesus has put us here to enjoy life with Him and others, and to use our resources to heal the world with the Gospel. None of that happens in a moment. But if we will intentionally make wise choices, spend time with Him, and gratefully set our mind on the things of God, He will transform our desires, our decisions, and our destiny.
I put my faith in Jesus when I was six years old, and had a very happy childhood growing up outside of Huntington, WV. I always loved Jesus, but I very much lived a double life through my teen years. It wasn’t until I hit college that I truly owned the responsibility for my walk with Jesus.
What changed? I think it was two things:
1) I found a group a friends that loved Jesus and were passionate about growing in their walk.
2) I committed to reading the Bible every day. God used these two elements over the course of two years to transform my heart and change my desires.
That was over 25 years ago, and I’ve spent most of my adult life serving in student and college ministry in WV, TN, and now Stuart, FL at Covenant Fellowship Baptist Church. I’ve also walked through several very difficult challenges, including the death of my first wife in my 20’s, the childhood leukemia, relapse, and bone marrow transplant of my son, and serving as a foster and adoptive parent. Through all challenges, Jesus has been my Rock, my Friend, and my Hope.
My heart is that as you spend a little bit of time each day investing in your relationship with God, Guided by Faith can serve as an encouragement and council from a spiritual friend who is further down the road. You’re going to have big victories, and you’re going to go through tragedies. And truthfully, you’d going to have a LOT of mundane, “normal” days. Let’s walk together and build your faith, knowledge, hope, and purpose. You were made for God’s pleasure, and walking with Jesus should be the greatest joy of your life!
I’ve you’ve got a topic you’d like me to cover, let me know!
